The Sequoia was generously donated with a full set of sails and miscellaneous hardware by Wayne Steeves in the summer of 2017. She is a Tartan 30, a classic early fiberglass keelboat with a fixed fin keel and skeg-hung rudder designed by Olin Stephens of Sparkman & Stephens and built by the Tartan Marine Company. Over 600 T30 keels were turned out between 1970 and 1979 due to the popularity of this versatile, seaworthy, and nimble sailboat. The T30 draws 4’11”, contains 3,700 lbs of lead ballast, has a 10″ beam and her mast is keel-stepped. She can comfortably accommodate six to eight passengers for a day or weekend sail, with three to five crew being ideal for longer voyages.
The original engine was removed so the collective purchased and installed an outboard motor. Collective members also outfitted Sequoia with ground tackle including Danforth and CQR anchors, electrical system powered by donated batteries, operational kitchen, head, and emergency toolkit.
